Beach Lifeguard Manual
The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) has teamed up with Surf Life Saving Association (SLSA) Wales and Surf Life Saving (SLS) GB to develop a new national standard for beach lifeguarding.
The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) was launched this month and resources will be available for RLSS UK trainers to run courses from April.
The NVBLQ complies with the International Life Saving Federation beach competency framework. It will be offered by all three organisations and was developed with support from the National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RLNI).
The NVBLQ will be recognised and promoted by RLSS UK, SLS GB, SLSA Wales as the national standard for vocational beach lifeguarding.
The common standard will:
Align with the International Life Saving Federation competency framework
Contain an agreed common syllabus and common assessment criteria
Meet the requirements of the National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group
Be recognised by the RNLI as the standard vocational award for beach lifeguarding
